About Us
The landmark presently known as the Road House was built in 1848. Over the years the
estate would be a gathering place for many. Most importantly, a safe house for the
soldiers in the 40's during World War II. The McKinley-Ogden estate later became a
Bed & Breakfast. A favorite place for actors to stay and rehearse while they performed
in the "Summer Stock" held at the Strand-Capitol in the early 50's.
After extensive renovations in 1981, the estate once again became a favorite gathering
place...The Road House Restaurant. What started out to be a small neighborhood pub
with 11 tables and a bar that seated only 12, now accommodates almost 200. The
original menu consisting of burgers only, will today tempt you with everything from
"Burgers to Surf-and-Turf". Whatever your choices, be sure to start with our famous
Cream of Crab Soup.
We take pride in the fact that we have a generous number of "regulars" and repeat
customers. One of the many reasons for this is The Road House is family-friendly. We
have numerous highchairs, booster seats, "holders for a baby's car seat" and of course, a
full Children's Menu.
In a Dining Poll, The Road House was voted to be one of the best in three categories,
the Best Independently Owned Restaurant, Best American Restaurant and The Best
Restaurant for a Date. Whether dining in one of our many non-smoking dining rooms or
our bar and lounge area, you'll have great food, great drinks at reasonable prices, served
by our friendly long-term staff.
